DVDs videos, and television, are certainly a great source of entertainment and most of us wouldn't want to be without them. But what about the days when everyone made their own entertainment?
Rural electrification in the mid fifties brought about many changes but even before that there was always plenty to do. Music, dances, plays, story telling, card games, the cinema and much more, were regular sources of entertainment and kept people enjoying life just the same.
Residents from the Manor Nursing home and the Glen School met together to share ideas about entertainment now and in the past.
It was interesting to hear that there used to be lots of cinemas in the County of Longford. There were several in Longford town, including Staffords, originally known as Staffod's Talkies, and the Odeon but there were also cinemas in Edgeworthstown and Granard,
The children from the Glen school entertained the residents of The Manor with a performance of a Percy French song, Adul Abulbul Emir.
The children discussed their favourite hobbies. They also thought about the hobbies that they would like to explore in the future.
