Mohill Young Writers' Group, Week 4

This week we started by playing a dictionary definition game. I selected a few of my favourite "outlandish" words , such as crepuscular, (to do with twilight). The group created their own definitions and they were read, along with the one from the dictionary. Votes were given for each, with bonus points for anyone choosing the dictionary definition.
We followed up with "mini-sagas". These have to be complete short stories but must contain exactly 50 words. This can be quite a challenge and a planning sheet helped with the creation process.
Some fascinating mini-sagas were created.

SOME COMPLETED MINI-SAGAS.

The Creature in the Garden Pond

I bought a garden pond. On the seventh day of the seventh month, at midnight, I heard a rumbling. On the seventh day I investigated the rumbling. I stuck my hand in. My garden all started to die and my hand is now swelling. Thus emerged Bellyophelae and digested Earth.

The Creature in the Garden Pond

I finished building my pond by Halloween. I watched the moon shining on the water. Then I saw it, a white fish, a skeleton fish It was cool but creepy. I was the first ever to have one. I ran inside and tried telling everyone but they wouldn't believe me.

The Last School Disco

The 6th class disco was to be my last. I wanted it to be really great. I put some money together for some indoor fireworks. I asked the principal to light them. She lit the first firework and vanished with a flash and explosion. That was the last school disco.

The Last School Disco

I walked into the disco. There were no disco lights and the room was in darkness. There was no noise and no people as far as I could see. I tried to get out but I couldn't find the door. Lights! Music! People! It was a surprise party for me.

The Invasion of the Rat Nosed Smogs from Jupiter

The Smogs with purple noses were very jealous of Mars but the Martians had Mars. Mars was red and Jupiter was just yellow. Martians wanted a yellow planet and the Smogs a red one. A spot of paint did the job, plants, trees and things. Now both planets are orange.

The Day the Television Exploded

I walked into my house and had my dinner. I sat down to watch my new TV. Ahh, my lovely new TV. The screen was all dots. The dots were jumping. Then with a KABOOM the TV blew up. Fleas flew everywhere. I must take my cat to the vet.
